Anna Louise Herndon
On May 13, 1930, Anna Louise Adkins Herndon, was born at Chauncey, WV, to Delbert and Anna Adkins. Surrounded by her loving and devoted children and following a courageous battle with cancer, she went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2017. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Clifton Herndon, parents Delbert Ray and Anna Elizabeth Adkins, sister Margie Meade, and brothers David Adkins and Delbert Leroy Adkins. Survivors include her children Ray (Sandy) Herndon, David (Wanda) Herndon, and Regina (Randal) Vance, all of Chauncey, WV. Additional survivors include her grandchildren: Clifton (Dawna) Herndon, Benjamin Herndon, David Herndon Jr., Stephen (Misha) Herndon, Terra (Eric) Vance Hovda, Randy (Becka) Vance, and Daniel (Jennifer) Vance; and her great-grandchildren: Hollie (Evan) Puckett, Katie Herndon, Matthew Herndon, Cassie Herndon, Zachery Herndon, Megan Herndon, Abby Herndon, Chase Herndon, Jaycee Herndon, Landon Vance, Lennon Vance, and Rosie Hovda. Anna was a Christian who attended Cornerstone Family Fellowship at Whitman. Anna, known to most as Ann or Louise, dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family. Those closest to her knew her for her quick wit and sometimes-scathing sense of humor. She loved to laugh but could hold an unflinching poker face indefinitely to play a practical joke. Her interests were varied and completely unpredictable, but when she loved something, she gave it her all. Anna’s home provided the setting for the most beautiful and treasured collective memories of the Herndon family. It was the venue for birthday parties, cook-outs, Christmas gatherings, and other special occasions. She prepared for these gatherings with a skill and efficiency that would impress any seasoned military strategist, and the food was always delicious and plentiful. Playing family party games—especially bingo, Splash-Out, cornole, and Naughty Santa—is a time-honored tradition amongst the Herndons and was everyone’s favorite part of family get-togethers. Anna loved the games, and everyone else loved to watch her participate. She was fiercely competitive when it came to these games, and everyone knew it was best to orchestrate a win for her. She was the life of the party, and her love and laughter will truly be missed by all who knew her.Visitation will be held 11:00 – 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 8th, at Cornerstone Family Fellowship at the mouth of Whitman Creek. Service will follow at 1:00 pm at the church. The service will be officiated by Pastor Richard Belcher. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill, WV.
