Bennie Lee Wilson, Jr. was born on September 6, 1960, in Man, West Virginia and transitioned to heaven on September 17, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Ethel (nee: Foster) Wilson; sister, Rozelyn Wilson; brother, Larry Wilson; and niece, Tasha Lester.
Bennie is survived by his brothers, Gary Wilson of Switzer, WV, Dana Wilson of Lorado, WV and Roger (Tonie) Wilson of Columbus, OH; nieces Alysha (Blake Noble) Wilson, Crisiah Lester, Brooklyn , and Ayanna (Lee) Bennett; nephews Donald Jemerison, Larry Wilson, Jr., Elijah Lester, and Melik Lester; and sister-in-law, Melissa Wilson; and a host of cousins and extended family.
Bennie was developmentally disabled and non-verbal. He spent most of his time around the house where he would rock in his favorite chair, gaze out the kitchen window or sitting in Rozelyn’s room waiting for her to crack open another Pepsi to share with him. He was the kindest human being you could ever meet and was the embodiment of unconditional love, compassion, and contentment. He would often wrap his arms around you and smile as he held you, until he had enough and gently push you away. Although non-verbal, he communicated in many unique ways, and those of us who knew him spoke his language and enjoyed interacting with him. Our mother insisted on caring for him at home until her passing, rejecting recommendations to institutionalize him. We affectionally called him our big baby and the siblings continued caring for him at home, led by brother Dana and sister Rozelyn until her passing. The family’s care was supplemented by many caretakers who treated him like family and assisted with his care over the years, most recently, Victoria Gibson, Mabel Mosley and Candace Elkins. Big thanks to Bennie’s PCP, Chris Tipton, and Southern West Virginia Health System staff for the guidance and help over the years with providing quality care to Bennie. Oncologist Dr. Waris and staff at Logan Cancer Center for the care post- diagnosis. Also, Dignity Hospice for the wonderful care that had been provided to Bennie in his transition to his heavenly home. Bennie’s light will continue to shine and the lessons he taught us will endure.
