Minister Deborah Shaw 62 of Whitman answered the call from the master on Saturday February 21th at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, OH following a brief Illness. Born January 15, 1953 at Holden a daughter of Bishop Rocine Jackson of Whitman and the late Walter Jackson SR also preceded in death by a daughter Shawn Valeria, Sister Rozina Guest, Brother Jimmy Guest and Grandmother Jimmie McGhee.
Deborah was a Logan High School Graduate and Longtime Member of the Original Glorious Church of God at Whitman Where she was the Musical Director and Assistant Minister. She was the 1st Lady and Co Pastor at The original Glorious Church of God at Taplin. Following High School She became a Devoted Wife Mother to her family and fostered 17 Children who needed homes. Throughout her life, she has worked faithfully and diligently in the church. Deborah was an accomplished worker and some of her many skills and talents were decorating, cooking, poetry, mentoring and most of all encouraging others. She served various areas in Logan County with her dinners and was well-known for her rolls, ribs, chicken, banana pudding, fried apple pies and mac-cheese. She also created and prepared programs for (funeral homes) families who had lost their loved ones. On many occasions she shared her music ministry at home-goings! She also served as the West Virginia State Diocese Choir Director; head cook for the West Virginia Diocese, published licenses for licensed and ordained officials of the Original Glorious Church Organization and was the treasurer of her local church. She participated on the live recording “Audience of One” in 2001 and led the song “What a Wonderful Name is Jesus”. Min. Shaw also wrote the song “Nothing but Good”, which was recorded by the Original Glorious Church National Choir. First Lady Shaw was a true worshiper and knew how to usher in the presence of God. She will always be remembered for the songs she sang “Everything Will Be Alright”, “God Don’t Need No Matches”, “Be Encouraged”, “Who Did It” and When you hear of My Home Going Don't worry about Me. Survivors left to cherish her memory include her Husband and Best Friend of 44 Years Overseer Leroy V Shaw 3 Daughters Dortesse (Michael) Christian of Columbus, OH, Melissa (Michael) Adams of Whitman and Diqueesha Guest of San Francisco, CA 2 Sons Monty (Amy) Shaw of Greenville, SC and Ernest (Rhonda) Shaw of Whitman. 5 Sisters Nora (David) Duncan of Detroit, MI, Eleanor (Joseph) Reynolds of Whitman, Evangelist Jacquline ( Bishop Charles) Laster of Detroit, MI, Evangelist Alyce ( Elder Marcus) Sheffield and Evangelist Robin ( Elder Allen) Davis of Raleigh, NC 3 Brothers Elder Walter (Lisa) Jackson Jr of Browns Mill, NJ, Dennis(Genoa) Jackson of Stockbridge, GA and Elder George (Debbie) Scott of Huntington, WV 13 Grandchildren Deidra, Devin, Darian, Leslie, Asa, Mikayla, Elijah, Deborah, Mykah, Cameron, Landon, Hevynn and Nolan 3 Great Grandchildren Myah, Damoni and Skylynn and Host of Brothers and Sister in Laws Cousin Nieces, Nephews and extended Family Members. Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 02, 2015 at Verdunville Church of God with Bishop Charles Shaw. Burial will follow in Guyan Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, March 01, 2015 at the Church. Pallbearers will be family and Friends. Collins Funeral Home of Switzer is in charge of the arrangements.
