George E. Howes, 70 of Sarah Ann, WV, passed away on May 6th, 2024. He was born July 7th, 1953 to the late James Anderson”Bill” Howes and Thelma Marie (Dean) Howes. He was also the great-great grandson of the late Devil Anse and Levicy Chafins Hatfield.
George was a long-time resident of Logan County, WV. He was a 1971 graduate of Logan High School and attended Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. He served on the WV State Seat and County Democrat Executive Committee. He was a past member of the AFL-CIO Carpenter’s Local #1207, past founder of the Omar Crime Watch and Omar Fire Department, and retired employer of Logan County Board of Education.
George’s hobby was raising and showing horses that won many awards and titles; one of which was a National Grand Champion.
Those left to cherish his memories include his brother, James Anderson “Anse” (wife, Regina) Howes; nephews and nieces, Christa Marie Howes Nichols, Gregory Allen Howes, Mary Beth Howes Ruiz, and Matthew Paul Howes; helpful friends during his illness, Sabrina Justice, and Russell Sheppard.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, at Collins Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, also at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Starr officiating the service. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, WV. Hugh C. Boyd Masonic Lodge 119 members will be conducting a gravesite service and serving as pallbearers.
