Gwendolyn Lewis

February 19, 1929 — October 23, 2021

Mrs. Gwendolyn Helen Lewis of Switzer died on October 23rd, 2021, at home. Gwen was the daughter of the late George W. Diamond and Mary Christine Stone Diamond and was born in Logan County on February 19th, 1929. She was married for over forty-nine years to Ed Lewis, who preceded her in death on May 5th, 1996. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Joy Diamond and June Rice; and two brothers, Edward Diamond and Carl “Buddy” Diamond.

A lifetime resident of this community, she took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. Gwen was an avid reader and lifelong learner, always seeking to learn something new each day. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age and encouraged and inspired others throughout her life, especially her family. Well known for her positive attitude and optimism, Gwen always saw the good in others. She was a member of the Switzer Freewill Baptist Church and active in the Ladies Circle for many years.

In later years, she became a member of the Logan Chapter of the Red Hat Society enjoying the friendship of other “red hatters.” For over fifteen years, she worked as a hospital auxiliary volunteer at the Logan Regional Medical Center devoting her free time to making a meaningful contribution to the hospital and those who visited it. Her name is listed as one of the Logan General Hospital Auxiliary Life Members.

Gwen is survived by her four children: Daryl of Logan, Susan (Richard) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Tim (Jackie) of Corpus Christi, TX; and David of Logan. Also, left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Angela (Mark) Collier, Derek Lewis, Morgan Lewis, Adrian (Sam) Lipes, and Shane Lewis; as well as her special great-granddaughters, Olivia and Abigail Collier; two sisters, Lois (David) Thabet of Stafford, VA and Bonnie Diamond of Ft.Gay, WV; as well as two brothers, Ronnie (Janet) Diamond of Ashland, KY, and Terry (Dottie) Diamond of Proctorville, OH; and a host of family, friends, and neighbors too numerous to mention.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, October 30th, 2021, at Highland Memory Garden’s Mausoleum in Chapmanville, WV with Pastor Richard Belcher officiating. Interment will follow the ceremony.
