Helen June (Ferrell) Drake, a devoted mother and grandmother, 84 of Monaville, WV, departed this life on Thursday, January 11th, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 1st, 1939, in Leet, WV to the late Charles and Ruby (Gillenwater) Ferrell. She loved cooking her famous dishes, especially her spaghetti for Lexi, “precious”; reading her Bible, listening to “her music”, mentoring her grandchildren, and bird watching “Red Birds.”
She was an operator for C&P Telephone Company. She was a member of Chapmanville Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-three years and “her sweetheart”, Oather E. Drake; her first husband, Thomas Avis; son, Charles “Eddie” Avis; daughters, Brenda Gish, and Linda Kurtz; and brother, Charles Ray Ferrell.
Those left to cherish her loving memory includes her children, Melissa (Jarrell) Drake-Plumley, Becky (Mike) Jude, Darlene (Roy) Justice, Sharon (Raymond) White, Donna Wisdo, and Nancy Scheller; special grandson whom she thought of as a son, Tom (Cindy) Miller; three precious grandchildren, Dylan, Kylee, and Lexi June who were great blessings to both Oather and Helen; brother, Bernie Ferrell; special friends and family, Arnold and Mary Jarrell, Sandy Gunther, Doris Winter, Tommy and Debbie Pickett, and Michelle Southers; special sisters, Carol Ferrell and Ann “Toots” Vickers; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. William Mullen for all of his love and care for Helen.
The family is honoring Helen’s request to have a private graveside service with Minister Johnny Steele officiating. Pallbearers will include Jarrell Plumley, Dylan Plumley, Roy Justice, Mike Jude, Paul Topping, Eric Lee, Kip Gilman, Hayden Gilman, Chad Akers, Dustin White, and Tom Miller.
In her memory, the family requests if contributions are made, to please make them to the Chapmanville Church of Christ.
