James Anderson “Bill” Howes, Jr., 95 of Sarah Ann, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, WV. He was born on June 12th, 1928, in Sarah Ann, WV to the late James A. “Anse” Howes, Sr. and Hattie (Dingess) Howes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Marie (Dean) Howes.
He was a member of the carpenters union and construction supervisor at A&P Company. He was a member of The Sarah Ann Church of God for fifty plus years. He was the grandson of Mary (Hatfield) and Frank Howes. He was the great grandson of Devil Anse Hatfield. He enjoyed playing the fiddle; his favorite songs were, “He Abides” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his two sons, George Howes of Sarah Ann, WV, and James A. (Regina) Howes, III. of Sarah Ann, WV; four grandchildren, Christa (Josh) Nickels of Charlotte, TN, Dr. Greg (Erin) Howes of Roanoke, VA, Mary Beth (Ritchie) Ruiz of Charleston, WV, and Matthew Paul Howes of Omar, WV; brother, Jerry Cook of Maine; sister-in-law, Darlene (Dean) McCoy of Indiana; and a host of family, church family, and musician friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, WV. Pallbearers will include family and friends.
A visitation will begin two hours prior to the funeral service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Collins Funeral Home, Inc. of Switzer, WV.
