Janeth Althea Stephens

January 15, 1938 — November 22, 2016

Janeth Aletha Stephens, 78 years old native of Man, WV  born January 15th, 1938 found her rest in the Lord November 22nd 2016 after a long illness. Janeth also known by many as Nanny and by family as Jan or Sweet Cakes resided in Kistler, WV where she had worked as a teacher at Mallory Head Start and then opened her own daycare program through Connect where she nurtured many children, eventually going into foster care.  Care giving was more than her career, it was her passion and way of life.  Having been recognized and honored by Governor Manchin for outstanding work and selflessness in her field, she is loved by many for her warm,  embracing spirit. At young age she gave her life to Christ and grew up attending Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church of Apostolic Faith in Mallory, WV where she was a general mother and spent many years serving as superior board mother until the church closed and she then became a member of the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ in Taplin, WV. With a passion for cooking and sewing, many know of her amazing sweet potato pies, incredible baked macaroni and cheese, outstanding light rolls and superior sewing skills. Her favorite quote is “There is no secret what God can do,  what He has done for others,  He will do for you!” She forever lives on in the hearts of all who know her as a loving and generous soul which is a testimony to her life as a humble servant of God.

Janeth is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Stephens,  her mother Henrietta Clark, her father James Clark, her sisters Rosemary Bush and Willie Mae Clark.  She leaves behind in her legacy 3 brothers Jim Clark, Danny Clark and Michael Clark, 2 sisters Norma Miller and Vivian Godfrey,  4 children Gary Clark,  Donna Clark, Diane Hooper and Brent Stephens,  4 grandchildren Chayne Hooper,  Shannon Hooper,  Shauna Hooper and Shavona Hooper.  And 1 great grandchild Raveyah Woodson. The family would like to extend a special honor and thanks to her sister and brother-in-law Norma Miller and Herman Miller for their selfless work in caring for Janeth during her illness and insuring she was in the best of hands.
