John Davis Ellis

 John Davis Ellis, 79 of Omar, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV. John D. was born in Gilbert, WV to the late Lloyd C. Ellis and Gladys B. Snodgrass Ellis. John D. was a graduate of Gilbert High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with over twenty years of service. After retiring from the USAF, he was employed at Lynn Land Coal Company and Gilbert Imported Hardwoods. John D. was a passionate man who enjoyed hunting, fishing & life itself. He was a loving husband of 51 years to the late Geraldine Ellis. John D. is survived by his daughter, Jan Hanlon and her husband David of Chapmanville, WV, his granddaughter Kelsey & grandson Zachary. He is also survived by his sisters Billie Hatfield of Gilbert, WV, Sue Helm of Hernando, Florida, & his brother Harry Ellis of Gilbert, WV; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding John D. in death were his brothers Robert, Donald, Ivan, & Clayton Ellis. A special thank you to Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. David Staley at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV, along with the staff at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV for the loving care and support. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:30 am at Collins Funeral Home on Friday, May 1st. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. with his nephew Calvin L. Ellis officiating. John D. will be laid to rest with a military burial honors at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Huntington VA Medical Center at huntington.va.gov or Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W.
