Lawrence Kammerer, 79 of Omar, WV departed this life on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023, at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, WV. He was born on November 15th, 1943, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota and was the son of the late Clemons and Evelyn (Kotlan) Kammerer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Kammerer; grandson, Trey Kammerer; and son-in-law, Luches Rosser.
He was an Eagle Scout, US Marine Veteran, and retired teacher and coach for Logan County. He was a member of Knights of Columbus. He was the founder of Operation Santa. He was awarded the “Distinguished Mountaineer, Distinguished Service to the Disabled Veterans of America, and Distinguished Community Service.”
Those left to cherish his loving memory includes his wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara Kammerer; two sons, Michael (Christina) Kammerer and William (Gina) Kammerer; four daughters, Angie Kammerer, Laurie (Shawn) Brittain, Shelly Rosser, and Donna Wolford; one brother, Daniel Kammerer; sixteen grandchildren, Brandon Kammerer, Kathrynn Swearingen, Jordan Huntley, Joseph Julious, Joshua Lowe, Caleb Brittain, Shana Rosser, Charles Rosser, Christopher Rosser, Haylea Kammerer, Memphis Smith, Anna Kammerer, Sarah Brittain, Alex Steele, Tyler Steele, and James Vannatter; four great grandchildren, Izabella Kammerer, Bradley Lowe, Elena Kammerer, and Aubrey Lowe; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who always called him, “Pawpaw.”
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at Collins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Godby, WV where military graveside rites will be conducted. Pallbearers will include his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Lyall and Dewayne Osborne.
Family and friends may gather with the family two hours prior to the funeral service.
