Lenore “Sue” Gillman, 79, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, to join the Lord. She was the loving widow of Rueben Lewis Gillman. Sue was born in Stirrat, West Virginia, to William Henry and Nora Lenis (Woosley) Alderman. She was the youngest of nine siblings and graduated from Logan County High School. After moving to Columbus, she married the love of her life, Rueben, and together they had their daughter, Renee LaDean.
Sue had a huge heart for animals, always surrounded by her beloved pets. She worked for many years at Limited Brands, where she was frequently recognized for her dedication, exceeding expectations, and providing top-notch customer service. But what truly defined Sue was the immense love she had for her family. She had deep, close relationships with her siblings and cared for her mother, Lenis, for several years. Her home was always open to family, where countless reunions and celebrations brought everyone together. Sue was smart, beautiful, kind, funny, and generous—she truly touched the lives of all who knew her.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben, her daughter Renee LaDean (Gillman) Luckenbach, her parents, and several siblings: Junior, Bud, Bill, and Carl Alderman; Leatrice Ferrell, Gay Sexton, Hazel Nelson, and Henrietta Hileman. She was also preceded in death by four nephews, Jerry Dale Ferrell, Christopher Alderman, Rodney Alderman, and David Sexton and by four nieces, Sharon Sexton, Wanda Sprick, Tonya Lynn Shell, and Brenda Gail Alderman. Sue leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family is grateful to the staff at Brookdale Muirfield Assisted Living and Memory Care, the team at Dublin Methodist Hospital, and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care during Sue’s final days.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at Collins Funeral Home. A short service will follow at 12:15 pm, where Pastor Pat Hutchinson will introduce Sue’s loving great-niece, Carly Hall, who will honor her great aunt. A procession to Highlands Memory Gardens will follow, where Pastor Pat will officiate a burial service in the Mausoleum.
Arrangements are entrusted to Collins Funeral Home, Inc. of Switzer, WV.
