Mary Lou Castle, 95 of Omar, WV went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023 at her residence. She was born on July 30th, 1928 in Rossmore, WV to the late Okey Thompson and Inez (Robinson) Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Castle; Margaret “Rin” (Charles) Cook, Okey (Linda) Castle, Denise Castle; Leon (Pricilla) Thompson, Patricia (John) Capua, Joyce Ann Johnson, Dick (Vivian) Thompson, Harry (Frances) Thompson, Neal (Cathy) Thompson, Polly (Dick) Nelson, Karen (Virgil) Maynard, Cecelia (George) Nichols, and Robert (Opal) Thompson.
She was an educator for the public school and at the Ralph R. Willis Vocational School. She had a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She was instrumental in starting the Omar Volunteer Fire Department. She was secretary and treasurer at Hillcrest Freewill Baptist Chapel for thirty years.
Those left to cherish her loving memory includes two sons, Greg Castle and Kevin (Christine) Castle; one daughter, Tara (Randy) Edwards; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at Hillcrest Freewill Baptist Chapel with Pastor Scott Nelson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.
A private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Collins Funeral Home, Inc. (PO Box 307 Switzer, WV 25647) for the funeral expenses.
