Maxine Copley, 90, of Chapmanville, formerly of Omar, passed away Tuesday, January 23rd at her home surrounded by family following an extended illness.
Born August 13,1933 in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Della Elkins. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ralph Copley; three sisters, Kathleen Gorgia, Margaret Brewer, and Jean Large; a granddaughter, Missy Deaner, and two “walking” buddies, Alice Hernandez and Leota Godby.
Mrs. Copley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was known as a mamaw to many in her neighborhood. There was nothing that made Maxine happier than a house full of kids and a big Sunday dinner for all her family. When she wasn’t babysitting or cooking, you could find her walking, she loved to exercise. She was a member of The Striker Bible Church in Crawley Creek.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Sharon (Jim) McMillen and Bill (Susie) Copley, all of Godby Branch; one brother, Virgil Elkins of Aurora, Ohio; three grandchildren Jamie McMillen, Whitney (Nick) Booth, and William (Tori) Copley; one great granddaughter who brightened her last days and always made her smile, Parker Shae Copley; a special “grandchild” Leslie Keith (Jenna) Boytek; and a special friend Vickie Frye.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, January 27th, 2024, at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John E. Godby officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
A viewing will be held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Pallbearers will include Nick Booth, William Copley, Leslie Boytek, Jason Frye, Scottie Ellis, and Chris Robertson.
Honorary pallbearers Jim McMillen, Harold McMillen, and Virgil Elkins.
