Thomas “Jaybird” Lawrence Adkins

Thomas “Jaybird” Lawrence Adkins 76, of Omar, WV passed peacefully at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, WV on Monday, November 11th, 2024. He was born October 31st, 1948 at Whitman, WV.

He was the son of the late George and Irene Blackburn Adkins. 

He was proceeded in death by one son, Shane Adkins; two brothers, Carl Adkins and Robert Adkins; and one sister, Virginia Mollet.

He was a retired coal miner of twenty-eight years and a member of the UMWA Local 5922. He was also a retired truck driver for M&S Hydraulics of twelve years.

He loved spending his days with his family and his precious grandchildren; going on vacations, loved playing catch with his dog Jax and loving on his cats Will and Paris. One of his favorite hobbies was sitting on the porch drinking coffee, feeding the birds and talking to his neighbors. 

Those left to cherish his loving memory includes his loving wife of thirty-four years, Alissa Adkins; his three sons, Christopher Adkins of Omar, Jared (Melody) Adkins of Logan, and Thomas Adkins of Logan. One daughter Robin (William Ellis) Day of Logan. One special grandson he raised as his own, Aaron (Jessica) Day of Omar. His granddaughters, Erica Day (David Grimmette) of Switzer, Sierra Kazee and Isabella Adkins of Logan. Two great grandchildren, Landon Day and Ellie Grimmette. And a host of nieces and nephews. 

Pallbearers will be Jared Adkins, Christopher Adkins, Aaron Day, Josh Hileman, Tanner Bledsoe, and Michael McCleese. Honorary pallbearers will be James Day, Douglas Day, Paul Hileman, and Jack Jude. 

Memorial services will be held at Collins Funeral Home on Thursday, November 14th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Matt Dameron will be officiating the service. Visitations begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, WV.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, to make monetary donations to Collins Funeral Home.
